VAHLE Battery Storage is a modular energy storage solution for electrified RTG applications. It enables aisle change without diesel generators, supports effective peak shaving, and improves efficiency, sustainability, and grid stability in container terminal operations. Designed for continuous port duty cycles, the system addresses the high power demand, frequent load changes, and harsh environmental conditions typical for RTG operations.
Engineered and built in Europe, the system focuses on three critical aspects of RTG electrification: thermal management and lifetime, peak power handling, and safety. These aspects are decisive for long‑term reliability, predictable operating costs, and high system availability in demanding port environments.
The battery system uses immersion cooling to maintain stable and uniform cell temperatures across all operating conditions. This ensures consistent performance and a long, predictable battery lifetime. Its high C‑rate capability allows efficient buffering of peak loads, delivering the required RTG power performance with a reduced installed battery capacity. At the same time, the system provides a very high level of safety through a non‑propagation thermal runaway design, supported by internationally recognised certifications such as ISO 26262, IEC 62619, Bureau Veritas Marine Type Approval, and ECE R100.05.
