Information

Every time a vehicle decelerates, at a terminal gate, stop sign, or traffic light, it wastes energy. REPS captures that energy before it is lost. A REPS system is seamlessly embedded 12.5 cm into the road surface, requiring no major civil works. The system spans 12 meters, is 3 meters wide, and contains 27 movable trigger pairs. As a vehicle passes over, its weight activates the triggers, which mechanically transfer the impulse via a hydraulic system to REPS' patented energy converter. The converter is built on a permanent magnetic bearing, the world's first of its kind in road energy harvesting. Two magnets repel each other to drive the conversion process, eliminating friction entirely. This results in exceptional efficiency, minimal wear, and a long operational lifespan. The generated electricity is then either fed directly into the local power grid or stored in a battery system, ready to power operations on-site whenever it is needed. The result: clean, local energy produced from infrastructure and traffic that already exists, with no additional land use and no disruption to traffic flow. In the port of Hamburg 229 systems can produce 10 GWh per year.
