The world's largest automated terminal, part of the world's foremost container port—Shanghai Port's Yangshan District. Yangshan Deepwater Port stands as the globe's largest island-based artificial deepwater harbor, serving as a strategic and pivotal project in Shanghai's development as an international shipping centre. It is reported that the Yangshan Phase IV Terminal, inaugurated today, commenced construction in 2014. Completed after three years, it encompasses 2.23 million square meters of land area and a 2,350-meter container terminal production line. It can accommodate seven large deep-water container berths, with an initial designed annual throughput capacity of 4 million TEUs, rising to 6.3 million TEUs during the operational period. Globally, the simultaneous construction and commissioning of an automated terminal of such scale represents an unprecedented achievement.
